Storj
Distributed S3-compatible storage across a global network
Storj is profiled here as a Backend tool for engineering teams. Read about features, pricing, and how it compares to related options in the tools directory.
Description
Storj is a decentralized cloud storage service from Storj Labs that spreads encrypted file pieces across a global network of independent nodes around the world. Files are encrypted and split into pieces, then distributed so no single node holds a whole object, and reads reassemble pieces from the fastest available nodes. Storj exposes an S3-compatible gateway so existing applications connect with a configuration change, and the core software is open source under the AGPL.
Key Capabilities:
S3-compatible gateway for connecting existing tools and SDKs
Client-side encryption and erasure coding that split files across nodes
Distributed storage across a global network of independent operators
Parallel retrieval that reassembles objects from the fastest nodes
Built-in redundancy that keeps data durable without manual replication
Open-source software under the AGPL for transparency and self-hosting
