Cloudflare R2
S3-compatible object storage with zero egress fees
Cloudflare R2 is profiled here as a DevOps tool for engineering teams. Read about features, pricing, and how it compares to related options in the tools directory.
Description
R2 is Cloudflare's object storage service, launched in 2022 with an S3-compatible API and no charge for egress bandwidth. Data sits on Cloudflare's global network next to Workers compute, so applications read, transform, and serve objects without paying to move them out. AI teams use it for training data, model artifacts, and user uploads where transfer costs would otherwise dominate the bill. Free monthly allowances for storage and operations make R2 usable at zero cost for small projects, with usage-based pricing beyond them.
Key Capabilities:
S3-compatible API working with existing SDKs and tools
Zero egress bandwidth fees on all plans
Workers bindings for compute directly against stored objects
Event notifications for object-triggered pipelines
R2 Data Catalog with Apache Iceberg table support
Public buckets, presigned URLs, and custom domains
