Description
ClickHouse is an open-source columnar OLAP database created by Alexey Milovidov at Yandex and spun into ClickHouse, Inc. in 2021. Vectorized execution over compressed columns returns aggregations across billions of rows in milliseconds, which is why observability platforms and LLM analytics products run on it. ClickHouse Cloud offers a serverless managed version, and ClickStack packages the database as a full observability stack. The company acquired HyperDX in 2025 and packaged the result as ClickStack, an open-source observability stack with logs, traces, and metrics on one database.
Key Capabilities:
Columnar storage with vectorized query execution
Real-time inserts with materialized views for continuous aggregation
SQL interface with extensive analytical functions
Integrations for Kafka, S3, Iceberg, and Postgres change data capture
Vector search functions for embedding workloads
Apache 2.0 license with ClickHouse Cloud as the managed option
