E2B
Secure cloud sandboxes for running AI-generated code
E2B is profiled here as a Testing tool for engineering teams. Read about features, pricing, and how it compares to related options in the tools directory.
Description
E2B gives AI agents isolated cloud computers and was founded in 2023 by Vasek Mlejnsky and Tomas Valenta. Each sandbox is a Firecracker microVM that starts in around 150 milliseconds, so an agent can execute the code it just wrote, inspect files, and install packages without touching production infrastructure. The SDK is open source, with hosted sandboxes available on a usage basis. Sandboxes persist filesystem state for the length of a session, pause and resume on demand, and scale to thousands of concurrent instances for agent fleets.
Key Capabilities:
Firecracker microVM sandboxes with sub-second cold starts
Code interpreter execution for LLM-generated Python and JavaScript
Filesystem and process control APIs inside each sandbox
Custom sandbox templates with preinstalled dependencies
Desktop sandboxes for computer-use agents
Python and TypeScript SDKs with self-hosting support
